Crazy Tables is a fast, fun and effective way for children to learn their

| Thank you for the loan of your Crazy Tables maths game. This proved
to be very successful. Over the past five days students attending our summer school 2003, where given the three and the nine times tables to study. Students working individually at each task showed little motivation or enthusiasm and in some cases took too long to complete the work. However, when placed in pairs to compete with each other, both morale and enthusiasm increased dramatically. Students were keen to learn and determined to beat their opponents throughout the week. At the beginning of the week the class average time for the three times table was 65 seconds, whereas the class average to complete the nine times table was 1 minute 45 seconds. All students showed significant improvement in both set tasks by the end of the week. The class average to complete the three times table improved from 65 seconds to 28 seconds. This is an increase of 57%, whereas the class average to complete the nine times table improved from 105 seconds to 50 seconds giving an increase of 52%. Overall I believe Crazy Tables is an excellent mathematical tool if given to the students with set targets and an incentive for completeing the task. I would like to see the Crazy Tables game used more frequently at Bedford High School, since most students arrive at our school with weak times table skills. I will be reporting my views and reasons for purchasing Crazy Tables at our next mathematics department meeting. Once again, thank you for your co-operation and the use of this activity game. |
| As a teacher I can see great potential for this type of activity across the year groups, especially during independent work time. We understand that you need to take the prototype back but can we have another one as soon as possible, please? Once they are in production we would like to purchase sets for use within school. | Confident use of number facts is an important element of the National Numeracy Strategy and learning the "times table" is key part of that objective. I found that "Crazy Tables" offered a challenging and innovative new way of approaching this task. Pupils were eager to use it and were readily absorbed in the activities. Regular use of the equipment has had a beneficial effect. It has helped to reinforce previous learning in this area and offered me a different and novel way of teaching "times tables". Engaging pupils is always half the battle. I would recommend "Crazy Tables" as a valuable addition to the maths resources stock and of particular value when used as part of a programme with SEN Pupils. I look forward to "Crazy Tables" becoming available commercially. |
